Charles Burns - Big Baby
Ahh! The great Charles Burns at the early peak of his powers. Big Baby collects some of Burns’ earliest published works: Big Baby, Teen Plague, Blood Club, and Curse Of The Molemen. These stories normally pits a kid in 1950’s suburban America, interpreting the teenage and adult life that goes on around him through his limited life experience and through a world of science fiction and monsters. Although his work clearly refers to a specific era of TV, science fiction, and American comics, it makes one wonder whether there were ever comics quite as strange and wonderful as Burns’ vision.
Wife: “I didn’t want a swimming pool in the first place. I prefer the beach!”
Husband: “So you could parade in front of those… those muscle bound golden boys!“
Damn those golden boys and their golden muscles.
